How to Keep Your Carpets Clean During the Holidays
If you’re like most people, the holidays tend to bring mess upon mess upon mess. The food, the parties, the gifts, the running back and forth. Time goes by, and your carpet pays the price.
With that said, we wanted to shed some light on a few tips on how to keep your carpets clean during the holidays.
Sweep and Vacuum on a Weekly Basis
Yes, this is an obvious one, but you’d be surprised at how much it really does help your carpets. Dust compiles over night, so the more you’re able to sweep and vacuum your carpets each week, the cleaner they’ll remain over time. Remember that you should clean all surfaces, not just the carpet; the furniture, the walls, the ceilings, etc.
Prepare with a Deep Cleaning
Before the parties start and the holiday spirit takes hold, give your carpet a nice deep cleaning. This ensure that your carpet holds up to its maximum potential when the shoes come stomping and the drinks start spilling.
Use Rugs
Place doormats and rugs near heavy walking areas to catch some of that dirt and grime that could potentially ruin your carpet. Seriously, this can really prevent that wear and tear.
Absorb Stains
When something does spill, make sure you don’t rub it everywhere. Use paper towels or just a plain white cloth, and begin blotting the stain from the outside. This will prevent it from spreading. Remember never to scrub. That will make things a lot worse. Getting to know your carpet material before hand will help you know which cleaning products can work best as well.
Carpet Freshener
Have you ever used carpet freshener before? Well if you decide to use it, sprinkle it over your carpet and let it sit for 10 minutes or so. Then go ahead and vacuum over the sprinkled areas. This will keep your carpets fresh and smelling good over time. Repeating the process once a month can do wonders on your carpet.
